Kansas City-born designer Kate Spade created a sleek, modern handbag that became a fashion phenomenon.  So it's only symmetry that Kansas City will receive one of her brand's stores.

The new Country Club Plaza location opened this week at 321 Nichols Road, set up like an upscale closet.  The Plaza is the premier shopping and dining location located in Kansas City drawing visitors from miles and miles away.  The plaza is one of the first, if not the first, modern shopping center.  It's not an enclosed mall but an open space filled with upscale shopping and great places to grabe a bit or a cocktail.

The entryway of the new Plaza store, with its multicolored striped floor and wall, features accessories like handbags and jewelry, along with sweaters with the words “spike the punch” or “cha cha cha.” Large green doors open into the next area where customers will find more handbags, clothing, ski hats, mittens, tights, knee highs, cosmetic cases and shoes.

Kate Spade New York has been featuring different colors each month. For November it will be jewel colors like emerald, cobalt blue and purple, and in December you'll find plenty of navy. For now, black, red and snapdragon (a hot pink) dominate the space.
